TEF Canada Writing Section A: How to Continue the Article

Section A gives you 25 minutes to write the continuation of an article, with a minimum of 80 words. Think like a writer continuing a situation, not like a student summarising the prompt.

Three things to preserve

• Context: keep the same people, place and situation.
• Logic: make the new events follow naturally.
• Development: add information rather than repeating what was already given.

A simple structure

Use a clear sequence: new event → reaction → explanation/detail → consequence. You can add dialogue when it fits, but you do not need it.

Before submitting

Check verb tense consistency, agreements, articles and whether your final sentence actually closes the continuation.
