How to Give Your Opinion in French Clearly and Naturally
Learn practical French structures for stating an opinion, explaining it, giving examples and adding nuance.
A good opinion answer has a visible structure. The reader or listener should be able to identify your position, your reason and the evidence or example supporting it.
State the position
Use À mon avis, Selon moi, Je pense que, Je considère que or simply state your opinion directly.
Explain the reason
Follow with parce que, car or a more specific explanation. Do not assume the reason is obvious.
Give an example
Par exemple is often enough. The example should support the point, not introduce a completely different subject.
Acknowledge another perspective
Je comprends ce point de vue or Il est vrai que… can introduce another side before you return to your own position.
Finish with a clear conclusion
A short conclusion can restate the practical consequence or your final position. You do not need to repeat the whole argument.
