TCF Canada Writing Task 1: How to Approach It

Task 1 is the shortest writing task, so clarity and task fulfilment matter. Before writing, identify who you are writing to, why you are writing and what information the recipient needs.

Think communication first

A short message can still be complete. Include the information requested by the prompt, use an appropriate greeting or closing when relevant, and avoid spending half the word count on a long introduction.

Use a quick checklist

• Did I answer every part of the prompt?
• Is the tone appropriate?
• Are the sentences connected?
• Did I check basic agreement and verb forms?
